Welcome to your Official Ductless Heat Pump Network!Need some good Ductless Heat Pump advice? We're here to help!Ductless Split Heat PumpThe Ductless Split Heat Pump Is Energy Efficent. What if you have an older home with thick walls made of lathe and plaster? Do you just suffer in the summers heat because your house has no ductwork? Not anymore thanks to the technolgy of the ductless split heat pump. The ductless split heat pump solves the cooling problem by piping refrigerant to seperate units throughout the house thus providing cooling. The difference between a conventional unit and a ductless split heat pump is that conventional units have a single coil and air handler indoors and a single outdoor unit with condenser and compressor. The air is dispersed throughout the house by the ductwork. In a ductless split heat pump system there is still one outdoor comrpressor and condenser but it serves the various individual units placed throughout the house. Refrigerant is sent throughout the house by small diameter individual lines. Cooled air is blown into each room from a fan in each individual unit. ductless split heat pump systems have the benefit of being more energy efficient. This is particularly acute if the ductwork in a conventional system is not insulated. In these, energy loss can be as high as 30 percent. By comparison, a ductless split heat pump system loses only about 5%. You also have the benefit of using the system only in the rooms in use rather than cooling the whole house. ductless split heat pump systems have the benefit of being considered easier to install. It generally takes two installers about one day to install most ductless split heat pump units. It takes about a three inch hole for the refrigerant lines, control cables and a drain for condensation. There is a lot of flexibility in design. There are floor models ceiling mounted or wall mounted ductless split heat pump models. The costs are relative when you add in the costs of the duct work for conventional systems. It costs somewhere between $500.00 and up per ton. That makes the average ductless split heat pump cost about a few thousand and up. There is usually a 1 year warranty on indoor units and 3 to 6 years on compressors. |
